AWCI Member Contractor: Heartland Acoustics & Interiors

The following project was submitted to AWCI’s Excellence in Construction Quality Awards program in 2020 in the Ceilings category.

Various ceiling systems ceiling systems came together in 2018 to make this 81,000-square-foot project, a remodel for technology giant Dell, special. This building was renovated to use as the spec for future work on the Dell campus. During this project, the AWCI member contractor Heartland Acoustics & Interiors worked with a range of AWCI member manufacturers to ensure products would match the aesthetic vision of the architects while adding acoustical comfort.

Many ceiling systems on this project transitioned into other specialty, acoustical ceilings and drywall ceilings, and in some places even down the wall. Complex arrays of different ceiling systems were installed adjacent to one another and had to be meticulously laid out well in advance of material installation. The installation had to be spot on, and transitions had to be seamless. This required seeking out the expertise of manufacturer install experts, procuring shop drawings for all specialty ceiling systems, and years of industry expertise in order to ensure that the project was finished on time and exceeded owner expectations.

Heartland Acoustics & Interiors crews installed two 1,700-square-foot diamond shaped wood ceiling clouds that mirrored each other across more than 60 yards of office space. Wood-look metal ceiling blades (pictured) of random heights and widths, gray-scaled continuous felt ceiling slats, and wood-look and raw finished continuous linear metal ceilings panels of random sizes continuing down the wall to the floor in were also installed. To create partitions between spaces in various locations around the office, floor-to-ceiling felt hanging panels with patterned perforated holes hung stationary, or on sliding a track systems were installed. Also installed were more than 40,000 square feet of acoustical ceiling clouds.

Headquartered in Colorado and with offices in the Rocky Mountain region, California and Texas, Heartland Acoustics & Interiors is a leading subcontractor of suspended acoustical ceilings, specialty metal ceilings, wood ceilings, security ceilings, acoustical wall panels, acoustical sound treatments, stretch wall and ceiling systems, architectural panel systems, demountable partitions, acoustic pods, interior and exterior cladding, rainscreen systems and perforated metal panels.
