AWCI Member Contractor: Daley’s Drywall & Taping, Inc.

The following project was submitted to AWCI’s Excellence in Construction Quality Awards program in 2022 in the Ceilings category.

Cytokinetics is a late-stage biopharmaceutical company that develops muscle activators as potential treatments for debilitating diseases in which muscle performance is compromised, and Daley’s Drywall & Taping, Inc. was responsible for the installation of several ceiling types on this biotech project.

This seven-story building includes office space, labs and a kitchen/café that feature several ceiling  designs and the different use of ceiling systems such as 9Wood ceiling systems, Arctura Vapor Metal ceiling panel systems, Arktura Atmosphera® Swell baffles and a variety of acoustical ceiling systems that cover 73,000 square feet. With an accelerated schedule by the owner, Daley’s Drywall conducted several Zoom meetings with the architect and the Turf design team to agree on a design and path that meets the changes and challenges that were presented late in the project. Daley’s Drywall was able to provide a flow of architectural ceiling systems that catch the eyes of all viewers. The Daley’s team precisely cut the 9Wood ceilings around the curved drywall soffits to give a clean cutting-edge to the design. By getting with their own in-house design team, Daley’s used a state-of-the-art laser layout instrument to achieve exact point locations for the Arktura Atmosphera® baffle ceilings.

In the lab areas, Daley’s used a curved axiom system that attached to the grid to give two different ceiling heights. They used a grid layout on the ground for curve bisecting point locations. The Arktura baffle system was laid out by using a total station unit to get exact points for threaded rod locations. The Dayley’s team used lasers and snap lines to layout the baffle, 9wood, Turf and Acoufelt hanging baffles, and aircraft cables were used to suspend the Acoufelt clouds. Unistrut was used to attach the supports for the Arktura Atmosphera baffle system. Daley’s also worked with design teams to coordinate the custom Turf ceiling installation and locations.
