Wood Veneer Wallcoverings

No tree is the same, each with distinct rings and graining that tells its special story. MDC is crafting its own one-of-a-kind chapter with a new wood veneer wallcovering created in partnership with eco-chic innovator and interior designer Jamie Beckwith. The bold simplicity of the sustainably sourced wood veneer wallcovering is the first in a collection of Jamie Beckwith designs for MDC.

Sextant, the first pattern in what will be a series of Beckwith-designed products for MDC, is a Moorish arabesque shape. In collaboration with Beckwith, MDC has translated the design into stunning, in-laid wood veneer wallcovering. Manufactured specifically for commercial walls, ceilings and even curved surfaces such as rounded walls and columns, the natural and inviting large-scale geometric style is offered in seven sophisticated, authentic colorways, from traditional wood tones to more modern grays and white wash hues, along with shades of silvery blue and seafoam.

As beautiful as they are to the eye, the wood veneer wallcoverings are also kind to the environment. The wood used for Sextant is sourced from a fast-growing Japanese tree with a special meaning. In Japanese culture, it is a time-honored tradition for families to plant this tree on the day a daughter is born. It is then cut down and milled into a chest given to her on her wedding day.

With Sextant, which will be featured in MDC’s Unique Effects 2 collection, each individual veneer is turned at various degrees to create movement in the grain. The product exudes an artisan look and feel with striking attention to detail. Forthcoming patterns, expected to roll out over the next several months, will include Lotus and Kaleidoscope.
