Brent Stone, senior director at the Association of the Wall and Ceiling Industry and associate publisher – advertising for AWCI's Construction Dimensions, has announced he will retire July 15.
When Stone first arrived at AWCI on April 9, 1990, he was tasked with revenue growth in just one area: magazine advertising. And he did his job well. Under Stone’s leadership, AWCI’s Construction Dimensions achieved $1 million in gross revenues for the first time during the 1996–1997 fiscal year—and in the years that followed, revenues never went under that mark. As advertising sales grew, so did AWCI’s stable of marketing vehicles for advertisers and sponsors. Throughout his AWCI career, Stone launched new media products including AWCI’s Member Products Catalog, the E:Dimensions e-newsletter, Product Spotlights e-blasts, the Online Learning Series Webinars and Manufacturer’s Corner sponsored features, to name just a few.
Stone’s retirement includes plans for travel, cooking and grilling, time on the theater stage and service to others. His says his greatest joy will be to share the future with his wife of 34 years, Linda, as well as adult sons Nicholas and Alexander.
As parting words for our community, Stone says, “I hope we stay grateful for each day, for today is the one in which we truly live—to work honestly and work to live rather than live to work. Peace.”
Stone’s successor is Joe Fernandez, who joined AWCI on June 14 as the director of business development and advertising sales. Fernandez came to AWCI from the American Society of Civil Engineers. Prior to that he was with AAA for 23 years. His experience has been in sales, advertising, publishing and business development
