Recent advancements in personal protective equipment (PPE) are significantly enhancing how well women fit into their gear, reflecting the growing presence of women in the construction industry. With more women entering this traditionally male-dominated field, it is essential to prioritize appropriate PPE for all workers, not just for the sake of equality, but also for safety.
As highlighted in NCCER’s research series, In Her Own Words, the inclusion of women in skilled crafts is vital, and contractors play a crucial role in fostering a welcoming environment. The International Safety Equipment Association, in collaboration with OSHA, is working to establish a new standard for PPE that is both universal and accessible.
While there are several types of PPE designed specifically for women in construction, there remains room for improvement. Manufacturers and business owners have the opportunity to further accommodate the increasing number of women in the workforce by prioritizing their safety through better PPE options.
